INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Seeking therapy can be a very important and brave decision for people to make for their health, the wellbeing of their relationships, and/or the success of their personal and career goals.

I hope to foster an environment in therapy that is safe, collaborative, empowering, transparent, and affirming to the values that are important to you. I believe in the power of a strong therapeutic alliance as the core to effective therapy. My approach integrates Interpersonal/Relational, Emotion-Focused, and Social Justice oriented approaches to therapy.

The basis of my therapy uses non-judgmental and explorative dialogue to facilitate self-awareness in relationships, systems/environments, and within oneself. Self-awareness includes attuning to your emotional experience, ways of making meaning, and behavioral responses. Such insight combined with understanding, examination and challenging, and corrective experiences in therapy may encourage new ways of coping, more fulfilling relationships, and self-compassion.

COUPLES THERAPY

Couples often seek therapy because they notice that they are feeling increasingly disconnected from their partner or drained by recurring conflict.

In couples therapy, I use an Emotionally Focused approach. Many times couples get stuck in conflict patterns in which their emotional needs are not being effectively expressed, heard, or responded to. My goal in couples work is to identify and restructure unhealthy interaction patterns that prompt distance or tension in a relationship. This style of couples therapy is not prescriptive (advice or skills driven), but process-oriented, meaning that we will be noting, understanding, and shifting the relational dynamic as it is happening in the moment during therapy. By learning and practicing new ways of relating within the safety of the therapy, couples can build an attachment to their partner in which they feel more bonded and secure.
